The Joel Test: 12 Steps to Better Code

So yes - basically - I think this is the way. You want your project to work. This is it.

I'm not too sure about this one though: (Point 11) Do new candidates write code during their interview?

The thing is - if he has a BSc Comp Sci.... you can probably trust him.... If he doesn't - yes - interview the guy.

Also - worked with a guy who was really good - was once asked to write code and walked out of the interview because his opinion is after all his degrees and experience it's an insult to be asked to write code.

I think - test the monkeys - the guys you aren't sure about - the guys who don't have degrees - see if they are up to scratch,

I don't know what to call it yet

The problem is that eventually some jerk is going to add a link to a porno site. Johan (johanjordaan.blogspot.com) has already linked to Playboy. Jerk.

I'll start adding code to vote off a site - but every now and then someone is going to get a nasty surprise ..... I really don't want to add admin stuff to it. I'll have to look for some kind of netnanny thing.... what to do, what to do.

I don't know what to call it yet!

I started a cool (I think) web page today.

The idea behind it goes like this:
In a world full of choices, I think it's important to sometimes cut down on those choices. So this web site will decide what you should be watching. It will randomly select a web page, that everyone who is tuned into, will watch for a set period of time.

I'll add features as I go - I hope it takes off. Everyone at work seems to think it's cool. They have been adding pages like nuts.

The beginning

So - here it is. The 1st chapter in the life of Sybrand.

I was born. If you can beleive my source. In Pretoria, in 1977, in September, late the evening of the 27'th. Now - it's not that I don't beleive my parents. But you can't completely abandon the possibility that the earth was created mere seconds ago. That the universe in fact, is no more than a few minutes old.

Everything could have been created, like it is, right now - a mere instant ago. You wouldn't know. No-one would - because it could have been created so as to look like it's been here for a while.

So yes, if my sources can be trusted. I was born in what was then known as the Transvaal. It has since been renamed to the PWV, and is currently Gauteng.

Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter....

In the heavens, the screetch did floo.

Avast.

Lest the grub be dodgerred by flimps!

Let not they hut be entered by fools, lest the hut be cursed.

Some cook on the radio last night said the world is ending in 2011. Damn. Better start stocking up on butter. I mean - if the world goes, so do the shops right?
