We are not alone!

Woohoo! http://www.nodedb.com/africa/za/pretoria/?
I'm not alone! There are others.

Okay, have one person in complex to share my ADSL network. That's all I need to make it profitable. So I'm happy. The rest are ignoring me.

But is seems there is a lot afoot!

I will start contacting people close to me once I'm up.

The Wireless revolution (Sybrands latest scheme)

So here's my latest scheme. I was trying to get one of the guys from work living close to me ( < 1km) to set up a 802.11 network so we could split ADSL & Internet costs. (For people outside of South Africa -Telecomunication is very expensive over here due to a big evil monopoly, and stupid legislationdue to change soon).

He chickened out when he saw the cost of a directional antenna and wireless nic. Bah. So on a spree I went, door to door in my little townhouse complex, dropping off a basic plan to everyone.

1 x directional antenna == many happy people sharing ADSL. See all they will need is a little 802.11 card (hell - I might not even a directional antenna if I'm luck!!!)

Anyhoo - it sure feels weird running around, bugging people, and walking into their jards. Feels like I'm invading their privacy. "Hi, I'm from unit twenty, I've got a mad plan for us all to have wireless internet....."

Weird thing is, I've been living here over two years, I've never even met a fraction of these people. I haven't even seen places less that 50 metres from me. Freeky.

At least my neighbour likes the idea. That makes it profitable! Full speed ahead!
