Sani Pass Adventure

In 2003, I saw some nutters cycle up the Sani Pass.

In 2004, I got myself a mountain bike.

In 2005, I remembered those nutters who went up the pass.

In 2006, I convinced a few of my nutter friends, and we cycled up the second highest road in Africa.

The Map:

The profile:

Isn't it pretty?

Sani Pass has some real nice scenery!

Johann strugled a lot. I didn't think he was going to make it. He went and broke his back a few weeks prior to our adventure. I cycled 95% of the way. He walked 95% of the way. He still managed to beat me to the top!

Hydrating is very important part of any sport. Here is Johan showing us the unfortunate side effects.

Here's Johann strugling again.

Johan and Wimpie were always in front. Fit bastards.

Johann didn't feel too good on the day.

Look very closely, and you can can see Johan and Wimpie in the distance.

Look! It's me!!! I'm getting fat!

Again - look closely, and you can see Johan and Wimpie in the distance. Bastards.

Celebrate reaching the top with some food at the highest pub in Africa, next to the second highest road in Africa.

No photos of us at the top! Can you believe. But here are our bikes!

View from the top.

Here we are on our safe return!

Before and After

The particular adventure started very early in the morning... with a long drive...

Our first stop was Howick - we saw a waterfall, a Rastafarian plying his trade - and visited a cemetary.

We arrived at our destination soon after. A magical place where ducks follow children around.

The we cycled up Sani Pass!!!!

With our adventure complete - we visited the beach - where we consumed ice cream and did things you do at the beach.

Getting prepared for the weekend....

The last time I went was somewhere in 2003. Great weather. And a 4X4.

This time - the satellite and radar maps show rain.

It was never going to be easy.

On top of it all - I've been ill for almost 3 weeks now - coughing and weezing.

Again

I went there again.

No good photos I'm afraid.

There were some goofy looking people around though.

I keep ending up there. This time with Tracey.

I haven't updated in a while. I've been busy. A pity - because I've been doing cool stuff.

Liz phoned again. She thinks she's bugging me. She's not. She's just hurting herself. I'm not going to ignore her - it doesn't fit with my profile. But I'm not letting her hurt me anymore.
